Getting started

Hello, and thanks for reading. As this is my first attempt at blogging, you will have to bear with me while I try and figure this whole thing out.

It's stressful being a first time blogger at the age of 44. Not because I'm too old to blog, I'm sure there are others like me out there. No, it's stressful when you don't understand the technology and the "lingo" involved. So, I'm starting from scratch and learning something new in the process. The question is, as I laugh to myself, will this be fun or will it be the source of a chronic migraine?

In a way, I blame my chosen career path for this current moment of anxiety. As someone who works in higher education, I am constantly around college age students who were raised on this stuff. They take for granted that this stuff all makes sense. They never knew a life without it. For them, its as easy as breathing.

For me, I both see the great possibilities in what this medium has to offer and am excited about it. But I also long for the "good old days", when life and technology was slower, simpler and more personable. Maybe that's what this blog will end up being about - a lamentation of what we, as a society, have lost due to the technological advancements of the modern era. Call me old fashioned, but I miss the face-to-face interaction because an e-mail is quicker. It pains me to see people sitting in a room together, but not knowing how to communicate unless they are texting each other. And I worry about current and future generations who are quickly losing the ability to be informed and competent adults simply because they can't find a Wi-Fi signal.

So, let's get started. And I will see if I can use this modern technology to bring back just a bit of the past.
